Sun 17-06 : Erik Wins

Sweden’s Erik Makitalo was the winner of our Sunday 9 Ball Competition earlier this week.

From a high entry of 30 players from 14 different countries, he went all the way to the top on Sunday to pocket the 1st Prize of 5000 baht.

Once again, as has been common place in recent tournaments with several of our winners, he lost his very first match in the group stages, before raising his game to win his next six matches and lift the trophy.

In the final he beat Craig Marsh from Wales, 4-5 in racks (race 4-8).

Craig again showed us what a superb cueist he is to reach the final, before finding the “ball-spot” handicap too much against Erik, and bagged 3000 baht as Runner-Up.

Two players from Hua Hin, Phil Dodd (Guernsey) and Phongsak Phonyiam (Thai) both reached the semi-finals, receiving 1500 baht each.

Champion : Erik (A+6) – 5000 baht.
Runner-Up : Craig (A+18) – 3000 baht.
Semi-finals : Thong (A+7) and Phil (A+5) – 1500 baht each.
Quarter-finals : Taoputta Nunu (A+2), Nelson Tyler (A+1), Peter de Jaeger (A+), and May (A) – 500 baht each.

The Player Auction Prize Pot totalled 24600 baht and was won by Barrie Sherman.

He paid just 700 baht to get Erik, and they shared the 1st Payout of 10k.

1st (40%) : Barrie (Erik) – 10000 baht.
2nd (30%) : Gary Vinson (Craig) – 7400 baht.
Equal 3rd (15%) : Thong (Himself) and Phil (Himself) – 3600 baht each.
