9 Ball High Roller Report

Congratulations go to England’s Jamie Brooks for becoming our 9 Ball High Roller Champion at the weekend.

Jamie, a “small table” pool player back in The UK, playing at Megabreak for the ninth time, adapted well to the larger tables to play consistently well all weekend and lift the trophy on Saturday night.

50 players started out in Double Elimination Groups on Friday afternoon, and Jamie lost his very first match to put him on the One Loss Side.
From there on he won his next two matches to qualify for the Double Elimination Main Event on the second day.
Onto Day 2 and he upped his game considerably to win a further six consecutive matches and pocket the 1st Prize of 28000 baht.

In Saturday night’s final he played Filipino professional, Arnel Bautista with the race set at 4-8 and Jamie getting “ball-spots” on the 5+7 in each rack.

He got off to the best possible start by winning the first two racks and from then on never looked back.
Arnel fought back to win four of the next five racks and take a 4-3 lead, but Jamie was not going to be denied and sealed a comfortable victory in the 8th rack (4-4).

He played some excellent pool over the two days and ended up a very worthy winner.

Arnel also played pool of the highest level during the competition, only losing out to Jamie twice on the second day and collected the Runners-Up Prize of 16000 baht.

Winner : Jamie Brooks (A+6) – 28000 baht.
Runner-Up : Arnel Bautista (Pro) – 16000 baht.
3rd Place : Sasha Bilov (A+3) – 10000 baht.
4th Place : Jarah al Failkawi (A+10) – 8000 baht.
Equal 5th Place : Robby Burghoff (A+6) and Andy Campbell (A+5) – 6000 baht each.
Equal 7th Place : Oliver Downey (A+20) and Gary Vinson (A+8) – 4000 baht each.

The Calcutta Auction provided enormous extra interest during the event and created a massive Prize Fund of 97500 baht.

It was dominated by Russell Masciotti from The USA, who bought only two runners out of the field of 50, but thats all he needed to take home the money for 1st and 2nd Place!!

He had to dig deep to buy Arnel, who cost 8000 baht, but it paid off as the return for 2nd was 29000.

The real bargain of the tournament proved to be Jamie though, as Russell paid just 1400 baht, and collected 39000!!

This took his winnings in total to a massive 68000 baht!!

1st Place (40%) : Russell Masciotti (Jamie) – 39000 baht.
2nd Place (30%) : Russell (Arnel) – 29000 baht.
3rd Place (20%) : Sasha Bilov (Himself) – 19500 baht.
4th Place (10%) : Maytham Almanami (Jarah) – 10000 baht.

The 22 non-qualifiers from the Group Stages on Day 1 fought out the consolation Plate Event on Day 2.

This was won by Younis Ahmad from Bahrain, who defeated Brian Priest from England in the final by 6 racks to 3 (race 6-5), to take home the 1st Prize of 7500 baht.
Brian received 5000 baht in 2nd.

Winner : Younis Ahmad (A+6) – 7500 baht.
Runner-Up : Brian Priest (A+5) – 5000 baht.
3rd Place : John Bangkok (A+7) – 3500 baht.
4th Place : Dennis Presiloski (A+3) – 2000 baht.

Megabreak would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players, staff, and helpers for making this event yet another great success.
